Tomorrow’s Digital Cities will be the product of today’s dreams. India is witnessing supreme transformation from rural to predominantly urban living over the last two decades. The vision of a modern India encapsulates the concept of 'smart cities' to address the phenomenally rapid urbanization of our nation. Nearly 31% of India's current population live in urban areas, and contribute 63% of India's GDP. Urban areas are expected to house 40% of India's population and contribute 75% of India's GDP by 2030. This requires comprehensive development of physical, institutional, social and economic infrastructure. In context to this, the Smart Cities Mission is an innovative and new initiative by the Government of India to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by harnessing technology. Renewable energy technologies will contribute a lot in achieving objectives of the Smart Cities Mission to make them zero polluting and self-sustaining cities. The renewable energy and smart technologies hand in hand are ready to shape the future growth of smart cities.
With this context, seminar titled “Emerging trends and Innovation challenges in Renewable Energy for development of Smart Cities” aims to confer the emerging trends and Innovation challenges in Renewable Energy for development of Smart Cities in the areas of distributed generation, energy storage technologies, smart grid infrastructure, energy transport systems, and optimal energy management schemes.
