About Event
The Model United Nations, as you are aware, simulates committees in the UN, International Organizations, and regional bodies in which participants act as delegates to discuss and debate pressing international issues. Participating in Model United Nations is an excellent way to develop one’s negotiation skills, learn effective communication skills and form solutions in an interdisciplinary approach, as well as to broaden one’s perspective on a variety of international issues. It not only offers a wondrous opportunity to the students in understanding global affairs but also strengthening their soft skills.

Event Format
Two committees of the Model United Nations would be hosted. Participants would be placed in 1 of the 2 committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organizations, where they represent members of that body. They will be presented with their assignments in advance, along with a topic or topics that their committee will discuss. They will formulate positions that they will then debate with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. At the end of a conference, the best-performing delegates in each committee, as well as delegations, will be recognized with awards.
Each committee would have two judges known as the chair and vice-chair.
UNFCCC Panel
The scientific evidence is increasingly clear: global warming and the resulting changes to our climate present serious risks to the future of the planet. Because climate change is global in its causes and consequences, international collective action will be critical to address its causes, to mitigate its effects, and to learn more how to adapt to the impact brought about by the phenomenon.
Join the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change to discuss:
Topic Area: Changes in the global value of ecosystem services due to climate change
Topic Area: Climate refugees and implications for them, post-American withdrawal from the Paris Climate agreement
Chaired by: Surendra Kumar
UN General Assembly
The growing might of AI in various sectors has percolated into the weapons sectors as well with the proliferation of unmanned systems in offensive capabilities. This is cause for international concern as it lowers the threshold for international war. The question that stands before nations is whether autonomous weapon strikes can be considered acts of war, invasions, or war crimes. Also international collective action is needed to identify the limits of the “Responsibility to Protect” and whether international intervention is needed in the case that any nation deploys unmanned systems.
Join the United Nations General Assembly to discuss:
Topic Area: Military Intervention in Transnational Conflict
Topic Area: Autonomous weapons and their threats
Chaired by: Devanshi Chauhan
Rules
Only individual applications will be accepted, no team registrations. All undergraduate, graduate, as well as school students, are eligible to apply. Based on the number of seats available, the applications and their preferences, applicants will be assigned their committees as well as countries they represent. The rules of the debate are as follows:
Formal Debate
During a formal debate, the staff maintains a speakers list and delegates speak in the order they are listed. At this time, delegates have an opportunity to share their views with the entire committee. Delegates make speeches, answer questions, and introduce and debate resolutions and amendments.
Moderated Caucus
A moderated caucus is a mixture of both formal and informal debate. Anyone may speak if they raise their placard and are called on by the Chair.
Unmoderated Caucus
In an unmoderated caucus, delegates meet informally with one another and the committee staff to discuss and negotiate draft resolutions, amendments, and other issues.

Devanshi Chauhan
Greetings Delegates! My name is Devanshi Chauhan and I am honored to serve as the chair of General Assembly for the 2017 edition of the IIMB MUN. Having experienced the benefits and achievements that the MUN world can bring to one, my enthusiasm for the MUN comes from its unique nature that manages to bring together diverse MUNers to discuss and debate current challenges, while also coming up with feasible and optimal solutions. The impact that such an experience can have on the world is limitless, changing the world becomes achievable and rests on each delegate part of this pioneering conference. My motivation for being part of this experience and apply for this position is given by my strong belief that changing the world begins with us, the youth. In our quality as the leaders of tomorrow, we must take the chance and lead the efforts towards changing what must be changed, improving what can be improved and preserving what must be preserved. Keeping up with the world’s fast pace is no easy task but we, through experiences as this one, have a chance of achieving things that will stand the test of time and benefit generations. I am a strong believer in the power and benefits of non-formal education and driven by a thirst for knowledge, desire to explore, and passion for the field of International Relations and policy making. I have participated in multiple international conferences and been part of the organizing team of several international conferences. Few of these are: the INMUN in Delhi 2008-2009, BITSMU in Dubai 2013, 2014, 2015. Ambition, determination, enthusiasm and pragmatic solutions are some of the ingredients I would add to this year’s edition of the MUN. I believe that the key to a successful resolution lays in involving the multiple and diverse points of view of all our delegates while staying focused on our agenda(s).
