About Event
Smart material based systems (SMBS), sometimes referred to as intelligent materials, normally involve distributed parts that can perform sensing, actuation, computation and communication. Inspired by the multi-functionality of biological body, a smart structure has the ability to carry out an appropriate response to accommodate time-varying external and internal environment, such as load, shape change, damage or failure. According to different applications, mechanisms with sensing and control are tightly and seamlessly incorporated with various smart material actuators that allow the alteration of stimuli-response behaviors as well as system characteristics at the micro- or macro-level. Many types of smart sensors and actuators, such as piezoelectric transducers, shape memory alloys, electro- and magneto-strictive materials, electro- and magneto-rheological fluids, dielectric elastomers, are being fundamentally considered, which span a wide range of applications in aerospace, automotive, civil engineering, industrial machinery, medical equipment, microelectromechanical system (MEMS), and so forth. Apart from numerous studies on intelligent structures, the implementation of smart systems with control strategies, signal conditionings, and power amplification electronics is becoming a key challenge.
