Two Day Crash Course on IC Engine Technology using Virtual Reality 2024

About Event

Day 1: Forenoon
Fundamental engine concepts
Single vs multi-cylinder engines, short stroke vs long stroke engine, Cubic capacity Vs torque output Vs power output. Valve timing Vs engine performance. Pressure wave tuning. CI vs SI engine combustion, spark advance, abnormal combustion, diesel knock Vs gasoline knock. Octane and cetane numbers.
Combustion chamber and valve train advancements
Divided, open and air cell combustion chamber. Significance of swirl, squish and turbulence. Sparkplug positioning and multiple sparkplugs, ignition timing.
SOHC Vs DOHC valve arrangement, Multiple valve arrangement, Variable valve timing, desmodromic valvetrain.
Naturally aspirated and Forced induction, Super and turbo charging, VGT, RAM air intake.
Modern engine cooling and lubrication
Effects of over cooling, Contemporary cooling techniques, Merits demerits. Optimum engine operating temperatures, Cooling components, Coolant and additives.
Dry and wet sump lubrication. Merits and demerits. Lubricants- Properties, Single and multi-grade, mineral, semi and fully synthetic engine oils.
Advanced fuel and emission management techniques
Lean burn engines, stratified charge engines, Gasoline fuel injection system- TBI, MPFI, GDI. Electronic engine control system, sensors and actuators. GDI system- Modes of operation, merits and demerits, Combustion Chamber design in GDI engines. Port and direct injection.
Emission control devices, Contemporary emission reduction techniques- Atkinson cycle engines, Engine downsizing, cylinder deactivation, higher compression ratio, ethanol blends. LPG and CNG fuel.
Future drivetrains
Electric drives- Advantages and disadvantages, Thermal and battery management system, environmental impact and waste disposal management.
Hybrid drives- Series and parallel hybrid, driving modes, Merits and demerits. Energy storage methods- Battery and Fuel cell vehicles. Hydrogen combustion engines- Merits and limitations.

Day 2: Forenoon and afternoon

VR engine building training
Offline hands-on VR session on engine building.

* Only those candidates who have paid their registration fee for workshop or who had received a valid confirmation mail to join the workshop is only allowed to attend the workshop. Parents/Relatives/Friends and others will not be allowed to sit inside the workshop.
* Kindly bring your college id card along with a photocopy of your pay slip or ticket details in mobile.
* Seats are filled on "first come & first serve" basis. No on the spot payment is allowed.
*Session timings – 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM (Lunch Break -12.30 noon to 1.00 PM).
* Laptops, pen drive and data card or mobile with net connection are compulsory and we request you to bring the laptop with full power backup.If your coming in groups you can share laptops with your friends.
*We are not responsible for any software failing to run/install on the participant's laptop.
*Late comers will not be entertained. No accommodation will be provided. No particular dress code.
* Lunch (only veg) and Tea will be provided
* Theory vs. Practice Ratio for Workshops: 50% theory 50% Practical. There will be No competition after the workshop.
*Kits are not taking away and should be handed over at the end of the session
* Charges for the Workshop are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-extendable.
