To determine the potential role of storage in the grid of the future, it is important to examine the technical and economic impacts of variable renewable energy sources. New technologies are also in the pipeline to meet future demand for electricity storage. In addition to compressed air and hydrogen storage, decentralized battery storage solutions, such as electric car batteries, are also in development.
