About Event

Shaastra, the tech fest of IIT Madras, proudly presents to you the ‘Rural Energy Challenge’. With a total prize money of 5 lakh, this is a competition where students identify avenues in rural areas that have potential for ‘Green Energy’ solutions and then devise their offering, which will be a product that solves the problem.

Spanning 4 months, this competition requires teams to conceptualize and implement their product and create a business model for the same. A key aspect of the Rural Energy Challenge will be the village visits, where teams will be asked to identify a nearby village for their solution and make at least 3 trips to study the environment and directly check their product’s compatibility. The competition will culminate at the Green Energy Summit during Shaastra in January where these participants will join several others in a 4 day conference on Green Energy.

Throughout the competition, participants will be guided by their assigned mentors who will be experts in Green Energy and rural environments. This is a great opportunity for students who have the drive to make a difference and are awaiting a platform to do so.
