About Event

Saarang is the annual social and cultural festival of IIT Madras. It is a 5 day long festival usually in the second week of the year which receives a footfall of over 70,000+ people from over 500 colleges all across the country. Founded in 1974 as Mardi Gras, it is the second oldest college festival in India. 26 years ago,it changed its avatar and adopted the name "Saarang".

Saarang is a not-for-profit, entirely student-run, ISO 9001:2015 organisation, making it the only one of its kind amongst college festivals in the country.

This year, due to the pandemic, we are going online with workshops, Spotlight lectures, competitions, and our eagerly anticipated World Fest.

Events

Proshows: This year Saarang has 4 major professional shows, namely, Classical Night, EDM Night, Rock Night, and Pop Night. Previously, we have had KK, Benny Dayal, Shankar Mahadevan, Opeth, Dubvision and Maddix come to Saarang.

World fest: With artists from abroad, the whole world comes to Saarang with World Fest.

Competitive events: Saarang conducts various competitions in which students from all across India participate.

Spotlight lectures: Saarang has had many notable names speaking over the years, including Kiran Bedi, Shashi Tharoor and Vishwanathan Anand. This year some of our speakers include Gautham Menon, Siddharth Varadarajan, the team of Scam 1992 and many more!

Workshops: Saarang has numerous workshops by acclaimed artistes in their respective fields.
