The transition to a sustainable energy system requires a plethora of new and improved materials for harvesting energy from renewable sources, transporting energy, storing energy, or converting it into other forms of energy. The vision of the materials for energy applications profile is to facilitate a transition to a sustainable energy system and to make world-recognised contributions in the field of energy applications through fundamental materials research. One of the reasons behind this increase in pollution is the in discrete use of fossil fuels, which are mainly used for industrial and transportation applications.
