Rise of Indian economy in the globe can be majorly attributed towards high growing IT sector but the contribution of manufacturing sector has declined in the Indian GDP. India still is not capable of producing their own complex weapons systems, Aircrafts and Tanks or bullet trains.
So, what is the reason? Does India has a shortage of resources - both Human and Natural?
The answer is No.
Indian manufacturing and services sector are under utilizing resources, be it Manpower or technology. Therefore If India has to live up to the expectations of the world to become an emerging economy and leave USA behind, India has to use its limited resources optimally. And here operations people role become crucial, be it inventory management, scheduling, waste management or facility layout planning. Building a great product is essential but producing at the lowest cost will give Indian companies a competitive advantage in the world and may make India " The Promised Land" of the future.
