About Event

Techkriti is the annual inter-college technology and entrepreneurship festival organized by the students of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Etymologically, the word ‘Techkriti’ is composed of two words belonging to two different dialects: Tech in English, meaning technology and Kriti in Sanskrit, which stands for creation; finally yielding the word ‘Techkriti’ signifying Innovations in Technology. The first ever Techkriti was organised in 1995, and has since grown into one of the largest technical festivals in Asia. This celebration of creativity is held over four days every March, attracting participants from all over of the country as well as from abroad, with an average footfall of over 25,000. This techno-bonanza witnesses fierce, neck to neck competitions in various fields, such as Robotics, Electronics, Business, Design, Coding, Aero-modelling; Online events (Crypto, Stocksim etc.) as well as Rubik’s Cube. We also have Guest Lectures by esteemed personalities who are well known stalwarts in their respective fields and Exhibitions, that never fail to ignite in students, the passion for innovation. In an attempt to add another feather to its cap, Techkriti, this year has decided to extend its aura to young children as well. We, at Techkriti, encourage innovation at its purest forms and what best way to celebrate raw intelligence than to go pro-school! This year, Techkriti is organising Techkriti Open School Championship. In the past, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (Ex-President and Founder of India’s missile program), Richard Stallman (Founder, FSF and GNU Project), Vladimir Voevodsky (Fields Medalist from Russia), Douglas Osheroff (Nobel Laureate-Physics), Michael Foreman (NASA Astronaut),Marshall Strabala (Architect-Burj Khalifa), Jeff Liebermann (Host-Time Warp), Victor Hayes (Father of Wi-Fi), Walter Lewin (Astrophysicist, MIT), Rakesh Sharma (Astronaut, India), Linor Abargil (Former Miss World), Hans Rosling (Data Visionary and Global Health Expert), Alvin E Roth (Nobel Laureate, Economics), P.Sainath (Rural Affairs Editor, The Hindu), amongst the others, have gracefully agreed to address the students and academia during the festival. Techkriti hosts one of the largest exhibitions of its kind in India. By showcasing exhibits of diverse genres from all over the world, it seeks to create a mesmerizing experience for everyone visiting; irrespective of age or interests. World's most advanced and recent technologies built in the foremost research facilities like DARwIn-OP (Humanoid from Korea), Nao robot (France), E-Velolink (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), Robolobster and Robolamprey (Northeastern University, USA), Augmented Reality Pool (Queens’ University, CA), along with India’s superior defence technology exhibited by the DRDO never cease to fascinate the audience. In the endless list of exhibits also belong Mogees (UK), The Decelerator Helmet (Germany), and The Virtual Archery (Tokyo University, Japan) that have been successful in creating an indulging experience for the public. After the gruelling matches and enlightening guest lectures and exhibitions, there are ample opportunities for the participants to calm their nerves and relax with their friends during the Professional Shows. Former versions of Techkriti have witnessed performances by Parikrama, KK, Roy Zaltsman, Andy McKee, Trace Bundy, Tracy Lee Stum, Kailash Kher, Walt’s 3D animation show Spontaneous Fantasia, Air Show by a team from Indian Air Force and many more. Every year, Techkriti, with its social campaigns addresses one major issue prevailing in the world at large. Techkriti’13 was the first Carbon positive festival of India. The previous year, Techkriti’14 celebrated the International Women’s Day by launching a novel campaign seeking to bring in a wave of women empowerment - “When Women Were: Awakening the nation to the plight of the Indian woman”. Keeping in mind, the growing figures pertaining to teen suicides among engineering students in India, this year we, at Techkriti, have started off with our Teen Suicide Prevention Campaign “#IamStrong” to minimize, and if possible, eradicate the teenage suicides in India. In the wake of the 21st century world, brimming with technocrats and entrepreneurs, Techkriti enters its 21st edition; a bigger and better version, all set to inspire the soon to be the engineers. It comes with the enigmatic power to exterminate the social evils that corrupt our society through the various social campaigns. We promise the best 4 days of your life, filled with enthusiasm and creativity like never before. Rest assured, for you will certainly not return empty handed: we guarantee inspiration and information to innovate, excel and empower. So pull up yours socks and let the Geek within you run rampant, for the countdown has already begun! Social Campaigns, A quintessential part of Techkriti’15 Blueprint to a smarter planet, the underlying theme of Techkriti’15 not only focuses on technology but also on society. Scientific advancement has always been the need of the hour but that does not rule out the fact that it is the people who will benefit from it. In order to have a smart planet we need to have smarter and healthier people. This initiative has been taken up by the technological and entrepreneurial festival of IIT Kanpur. This Christmas Techkriti became Santa Claus, when our 'Campaigns' team visited Subhash Children Home, an orphanage in Kanpur and came up with an idea to see what could make these children real happy. “Make A Wish” campaign surely brought that ever so rare smile on their little faces when they had their wishes fulfilled by our team. Teen suicide is a growing concern in every educational institution in India. Techkriti in association with Counselling Service, IIT Kanpur conducted a talk on Suicide prevention by Vikram Singh, an Indian educationist and a retired IPS officer which marked the launch of our campaign "‪#‎IamStrong‬". Continuing with our Health Campaign, an Oral Hygiene Free Dental Check Up camp was organised in IIT Kanpur, where pointers were given as to how to keep up one’s wonderful smile. “Donate your blood for a reason, let the reason be life". In keeping with this spirit Techkriti organized a Blood Donation Camp in association with Blood Connect, as a part of its Health Campaign at Rave Moti Mall, Kanpur on 17th October, 2014. We had started a green revolution of our own. ‪#‎Techkriti‬ in association with CUGL as the Official Campaign partner, organized Prakriti, Adopt a Tree social campaign by distributing thousands of saplings to the locals in the malls of Kanpur. What more noble than to provide a blanket to that shivering person on the street. Techkriti in association with The Logical Indian conducted an Annual Winter Donation Drive during the winters as a part of its Campaign. We donated blankets and winter clothes to the needy homeless people. The objective was to encourage more and more people to indulge in such activities. We don't seek publicity from organizing these campaigns. Indians are often known to only brag about social reforms. We, on the other hand want to motivate each and every citizen to actually do something for the betterment of our nation.
