About Event

Software Freedom Day is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate people about the benefits of using high quality FOSS everywhere! The non-profit organization Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own communities. At SMVDU, we have already organized SFD twice in past during 2010 and 2011. This year we are going to extend it for two days, keeping in view the enthusiasm of Students about Open Source. We’ll organizing workshops covering various open source platforms ranging from Linux, Wikipedia, Python to Github and Network Security. Along with this we’ll also have a few competitions based on open source theme. Our aim is to impart basic knowledge and work flow of open source among students, so as to make them an active supporter and contributor of Open Source World.
