About Event
The Government Law College, founded in 1855, is the oldest law school in Asia dating even prior to the University of Mumbai, and enjoys a pre-eminent national and international reputation for excellence. GLC which has a rich heritage and pedigree is the repository of erudition in the legal firmament and has had the privilege of guidance from eminent legal luminaries such as Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, Lokmanya Tilak, Justice M.C.Chagla, Nani Palkhivala and several others who have adorned benches of the Supreme Court of India and the Bombay High Court. Equally, students who have passed from the portals of GLC have distinguished themselves at the Bar, the Judiciary and the Academy. The fulcrum of the college has been its well qualified and dedicated visiting faculty who besides being successful professionals, make time to share their knowledge with the students, and the freedom enjoyed by students to work while in college. The Sports Committee of Government Law College has always striven to promote sporting culture in the law school life of its students. Our teams have participated in the top national law schools’ tournaments and have won laurels of our college. The sports committee is immensely proud to announce its flagship tournament “SHOWDOWN” 2nd to 4th March, 2014. We invite participation of your institution in Football (M), Cricket (M) and Volleyball (M & W). The cash prizes to be given away for the events are as follows: Football (M) – Rs.12, 000/- Volleyball (M&W) – Rs.5, 000/- (Winners) and Rs.3, 000/-(Runners’ Up) Cricket (M) – Rs.10, 000/- The winners would also be awarded with a glorious Trophy and medals for the members of its team. The venue for Football and Volleyball is Karnataka Sporting Association, Church gate and for Cricket is Oval Maidan, Church gate. Professional referees and umpires will be appointed for all the matches. The last date for registration is 28th February 2014. Each sport has a maximum of 8 participating teams and registration will be done on a first come basis. We hope to see you at SHOWDOWN 2014. RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. College ID cards for the year 2014-15 must be presented to the organisers by all the players before every game, failing which the player will not be allowed to participate. 2. Smoking, consumption of alcohol or any other kind of misbehaviour at the venue by any participant will result in the disqualification of that participant’s college from all sporting events. 3. Decisions of the referees and umpires will be final in all cases and must be respected by all participants. 4. Rules for various sports are given below: Football Rules: 1. Every team must have a minimum of 11 players. 2. Matches will be held in league format.(depending on the no. of teams) 3. Maximum 5 substitutes on the bench, up to 3 substitutions allowed per match. 4. Professional referees affiliated with the Mumbai School Sports Association(MSSA) will be appointed for the games, along with 2 assistant referees, also affiliated with the is Mumbai School Sports Association(MSSA). 5. Quarter finals will be of 20 minutes a half and semi-finals and finals will be of 25 minutes a half. In case of a draw, a penalty shootout will decide the winner. 6. The Offside rule applies. 7. Red card results in 1 game suspension Registration Fee: Rs.1000/- per team Arjun Savant - +91-9833935445 Cricket T-20 Rules: 1. Every team must have a minimum of 11 players. 2. Normal T-20 cricket rules will apply. 3. Matches will be held in knock out format. 4. The free hit rule does not apply. 5. Every team should bring their own kits and required equipment, and should be solely responsible for the same. Nothing will be provided for by the organisers. The organisers cannot be held liable for any misplaced equipment. Registration Fee: Rs.1000/- per team Pramod Kumbhar - +91-9920762607 Volleyball (M & W) Rules: 1. Type of Tournament: League, Pool or Knockout, depending on the number of the teams participating. 2. Each team is to consist of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 players. 3. Each set is of 25 rally points. A match is of 3 sets. The third set would be a decider set of 15/25 points. 4. Rotation during the matches is compulsory. Registration Fee: Rs.350/- per team (for boys) *Note: There is no registration fee for Girls’ teams.
