Concrete is a universal construction material widely used in providing any infrastructure for the well being of humanity. Concrete technology is rapidly changing because concrete for the future must be stronger, durable, constructible, green, predictable and cost effective. In the last two decades, phenomenal developments have been made in concrete construction throughout the world. Development of high strength concrete, use of admixtures, special mixing and application techniques are some of the examples. Use of environmentally friendly materials, recycling of concrete, and utilization of industrial wastes in manufacture of concrete has also been in practice to ensure sustainable resources for our future generation. There have been problems associated with alkali-aggregate reaction, faster than normal degradation due to environmental factors, corrosion of reinforcement and deficiencies in construction practices leading to some catastrophic failures. Nevertheless, the civil engineer today has a number of possibilities for improvement in the quality of concrete. There is enormous potential for use of polymers, fibres (manufactured, natural or waste), admixtures and nano materials in concrete manufacture for better strength and durability. Innovation is the key to future development and for this a multidisciplinary effort is required. This in turn requires the civil engineering fraternity involving academia, researchers and practising engineers as well as the scientists and mathematicians to work together. Keeping the above in view, the School of Civil Engineering of Krunya University is organizing this National Conference as the premier forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in the fields of theoretical, experimental, and applied technologies in Concrete Technology.
