Course Outline: Blue Prism (Robotic process Automation) 1-Day
Workshop for Beginners.
Target Audience: New to beginner-level users, including business analysts, IT professionals,
and anyone interested in understanding and implementing Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
No prior coding experience is required.
Workshop Goal: To provide a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to Blue Prism, enabling
participants to understand core concepts, navigate the development environment, and build a
simple, end-to-end automation.
Session 1: Workshop Kick-off & RPA Fundamentals (10:30 AM - 11:15 AM)
Time: 45 minutes
Key Learning Objectives:
Define RPA and its business value.
Familiarize participants with the Blue Prism platform components.
Navigate the Blue Prism development environment, including the Dashboard and
Control Room.
Session 2: Hands-On with Process Studio (11:15 AM - 1:00 PM)
Key Learning Objectives:
Create a new process in Process Studio.
Work with essential stages like Start, End, Data Item, Calculation, and Decision.
Understand the concept of linking stages to build a workflow.
Practice using validation, logging, and debugging tools like breakpoints.
Break (1:00 PM - 1:30 PM)
Session 3: Introduction to Object Studio (1:30 PM - 2:30 PM)
Key Learning Objectives:
Differentiate between Process Studio and Object Studio.
Create a Business Object to interact with an application.
Use the Application Modeller with different spying modes to identify and configure application elements.
Create Actions in the Business Object to perform specific tasks.
Session 4: The Final Automation Challenge & Wrap-up (2:30 PM - 3:30 PM)
Time: 60 minutes
Key Learning Objectives:
Integrate the Business Object into a Process using the Action stage.
Pass data between the Process and the Object using inputs and outputs.
Complete a full, end-to-end automation Project.
Identify next steps and resources for continued learning.

About the Department
The Department of Energy and Environment (DEE) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli, originally established in 1995 as the Centre for Energy and Environmental Science and Technology (CEESAT), focuses on developing sustainable solutions for global energy and environmental challenges. Renamed in 2012, DEE offers an interdisciplinary M.Tech. program in Energy Engineering, which blends principles from energy systems, environmental technologies, and sustainability. The department actively engages in advanced research in areas such as carbon capture using microalgae, solar energy applications, wind energy, energy-efficient building design, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). DEE's laboratories are ISO 9001:2008 certified and NABL-accredited, enabling both academic research and industrial testing in fields like photovoltaic systems, effluent treatment, and energy system modelling.
In addition to research and education, the department also provides consultancy services including energy audits, photovoltaic system design, water and waste material testing, and environmental monitoring for industries and institutions. DEE has implemented several notable pilot Projects such as the Energy Efficient Building, which utilizes passive architectural techniques for minimizing energy consumption, and the Algal Shed, a Project demonstrating the use of algae for wastewater treatment and CO₂ sequestration. These Projects showcase the department’s commitment to innovation in sustainable infrastructure. Through its robust academic offerings, practical research, and real-world application, DEE continues to contribute significantly to energy conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Its interdisciplinary approach positions it as a key player in addressing the pressing global need for clean and efficient energy technologies.
