The annual sports extravaganza of IIT Kanpur, Udghosh’21, presented by PERF, powered by TECNO Mobile, banking Partner SBI, educational partner IQRA IAS, Title sponsor of Grand Poker League-GUTSHOT has finally begun on April 1. Yesterday was the very premier day of the sports fiesta and the campus junta was at the peak of energy and enthusiasm for the fest. The campus decorations were a soothing pleasure to the eyes; the hard work behind the preparations was commendable. The campus brilliantly radiated flamboyance. There were all sorts of banners and posters everywhere, and team members were putting in all efforts for the smooth conduct of the festival.
Teams and contingents from all participating educational institutes across the nation were busy either in their respective games or enjoying the other aspects of the fest served by the host institute IIT Kanpur. Everyone was seemingly enjoying themselves.
The grounds were all filled with spirits and heat as competition in various sports, as teams battled each other. Talking of the various sports organized, day 1 and day 2 witnessed Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Squash, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Weightlifting, Kabaddi, Chess, Table Tennis and Badminton taking place at respective venues and grounds. Live scoring and updates were made available to the entire campus junta, as well as in an online manner to those not currently on campus.
The first evening was marked by an opening ceremony held at the Outreach Auditorium and it was inaugurated by the honourable chief guest for the day, Mrs Pramila Pandey, the incumbent mayor of Kanpur Municipal Corporation. The guest panel included Siddhartha Panda, DOSA, IITK and Pradeep Swarnakar, professor, IITK, other faculty members and students. The chief guest enlightened the auspicious Diya and interacted with the public later. The day concluded with two Informal Events being organised for the campus junta, namely, ‘IPL Quiz’ and ‘Chamber Of Secrets’ which took place on the events ground. IPL Quiz, as the name suggests, was a quiz based on the IPL cognizance of the audience and the craze of the IPL made the event thrilling. ‘Chamber of secrets’ was another light-hearted event, wherein, two boxes were provided to the audience, in which, they could put anonymously their confessions and some pickup lines, which were later read to the public.
On the second day, noon to evening time was decorated with various shows and events for the campus junta. An online session with the legend Prakash Padukone himself kickstarted these events. Following right after was the social cause event Udaan, hosting a talk session with Paralympian Sharad Kumar, and a Trek Talk session with Sangeeta Bahl, who scaled Mount Everest at the age of 53. A Zumba session refreshed all the people, followed by a Freestyle Football show from Aarish Ansari.
The night will witness the most awaited Comedy Nite where stand-up artist Parvinder Singh would make everyone roll on the floor laughing. The day would conclude with two Informal Events being organised for the campus junta, namely, ‘Prom Night’ and ‘Son Of A Pitch’ which will take place at the Yoga room and Events Ground respectfully. Prom Night, as the name suggests, will be a couple oriented dance and games event whereas, ‘Son Of A Pitch’ will be another light-hearted event, wherein, teams will be given a product they would have to pitch-present and sell in front of the judges.
In conclusion, the passion and high spirits of the athletes appreciably enthralled everyone, and the atmosphere that was filled with the heat of competitiveness during the day was full of joy at the night. The student junta enjoyed every second of the festival. And thus, the conduct of the enthralling festival has been a grand success.
