Increasing sustainability and environmental attention, supporting regulatory frameworks, and new technology developments in the power sector are making electricity the backbone of the future energy system. Power electronics are increasingly being used in novel applications, such as electronic power distribution systems, also known as active distribution networks or smart grids, as a result of the quick advancements in semiconductor and packaging technologies as well as the creation of new power converter topologies. Such concepts could be utilized for a single building or entire district, depending on the power scale, enabling greater shares of distributed energy generation and storage, demand-side efficiency, and energy trading operations.
