SUMMARY:Workshop and Faculty Development program on "Smart Grid and Smart M
 etering" 15
LOCATION:CMR Institute of Technology CMRIT\, Bengaluru
DESCRIPTION:<p>Scope:<br />\n<br />\nThe present Electrical System has grow
n over many years. Electronic or intelligent components\, Automation in th
 e form of SCADA\, IT for Metering\, Billing &amp\; Collections\, Remote Me
ter reading are introduced to improve operational easiness\, better perfor
mance etc as well as to manage the growing consumer base. But the power se
ctor continuously finds itself unable to meet the equired demand. The SMAR
T GRID is expected to help in realizing better management of power system
operations with participation of all Stakeholders. The Smart Grid aims to
modernize today's grid which is aging\, unreliable\, susceptible &amp\; si
lent to all forms of disturbances.<br />\n<br />\nThe Smart Grid concept o
 ffers several characteristics<br />\n(I) Self healing and adaptive.<br />\
 n(II) Distributed Generation<br />\n(III) Interactive with consumers<br />
\n(IV) Optimized to make best use of resources and equipment<br />\n(V) Pr
 edictive rather than reactive.<br />\n<br />\n<br />\nSpeaker Profile:<br
/>\n<br />\nC.BALASUBRAMANYA is an experienced and professional trainer in
smart grids and smart meters after retirement from BHEL. He has over 43 y
ears of experience in various capacities. He had a distinguished career in
meter related projects from concept to commissioning. He was heading mete
r Engineering dept. &amp\; has experience in product design\, testing\, qu
ality assurance\, validation\,&amp\; CRM. Recently Kalasalingam University
has appointed him as the member-Board of studies@ their EEE department.<b
