Renewable energy systems are becoming more popular for elect ricity generation
\nsince they are clean and can fulfill the power re quirement at the local level. They
\nreduce the congestions in the po wer grid and also reduce the burden in hydro and
\nthermal based powe r plants. Globally\, about 20% penetration of renewable energy
\nbase d distributed generation in electricity generation is considered necessary in
\nthe coming decade. The intermittent nature of renewable energy sources results in
\nsystems of slowing dynamics\, nonlinearities\, a nd power quality problems etc. For
\npast couple of decades\, power q uality issues have become increasingly important
\nin the grid connec ted renewable energy systems especially due to their
\nintermittent n ature in addition to the widespread use of non-linear electronic
\neq uipments. With the advent of power electronic converters with robust contr ol
\ntechniques\, renewable energy systems can get massively intercon nected with the
\ngrid for power feeding or used as an isolated syste m in remote locations. The use
\nof more efficient control strategies would not only enhance the performance of
\nthese systems\, but also improve the power quality in generation\, distribution\, and
\nutili zation at load end of the supply systems.
