SUMMARY:Tekzone 2014
LOCATION:Dr BMN College of Home Science\, Mumbai
DESCRIPTION:
TEKZONE ...Make IT Happen

Smt. K. G. Shah Dept. Of Com
puter Applications under Dr. B.M.N. College\, Matunga had proudly launched
Tekzone - an Intercollegiate Tech Fest in the year 2007 and it has been a
huge success since its inception. What makes the management and teaching
faculty proud is the fact that it is completely a students’ endeavour\,
right from designing the posters and pamphlets\, acquiring sponsorship to
conceiving and planning the events - though under the able guidance of the
teachers. This is an exclusive IT fest organized BY the students and FOR
the students. It aims to integrate students from different colleges across
Mumbai pursuing a career in IT and the computer field. The fest provides
students a platform to interact\, exchange ideas and develop a competitiv
e spirit by participating in various events. Influential personalities are
invited as judges for the events. Tekzone is organized on a large scale a
nd the students’ efforts for managing the entire event surely calls for
a special mention.
\nThree cheers for Tekzone!!!

Theme :Eve’
s World... Adam’s Perception

How an individual is perceived has mu
ch to do with how others respond to them and ultimately how they are treat
ed. Throughout history\, varying interpretations of the biblical account o
f Adam and Eve have led to certain perceptions that have had enormous impa
ct on women’s lives. For centuries\, interpretations of Eve’s actions
led in part to perceptions of women as weak\, emotional\, easily deceived
and easily enticed. In the Biblical account the serpent "deceives" Eve and
she partakes of the the fruit that "the Lord God commanded...thou shalt n
ot eat". Woman’s supposed inclination to disobedience led God to place w
omen under the control of men who were\, by interpretation\, strong\, reas
onable\, rational and fitted to rule. Woman’s place was to inhabit the p
rivate or domestic sphere while men’s place was the public world of warf
are\, business and commerce. No surprise that by the 19th century\, women
were educated primarily in domestic tasks\, denied higher education\, forb
idden entry into professions and prohibited political office and the vote.
Marriage was perceived as hierarchical with women inferior and subservien
t to men. If a woman earned a wage\, it was legally her husband’s. Some
physical violence against women was legal. With few exceptions money or pr
operty a woman brought into marriage belonged to the husband. If a woman l
eft a marriage\, any assets and the children stayed with the husband. Wome
n were considered disreputable if they spoke in public and a sexual double
standard existed. Any hint of impropriety on a woman’s part was condemn
ed and she became a social outcast. In the 19th century\, women sought to
change perceptions.
