The Government Law College\, founded in 1855\, is the oldest
law school in Asia dating even prior to the University of Mumbai\, and en
joys a pre-eminent national and international reputation for excellence. G
LC which has a rich heritage and pedigree is the repository of erudition i
n the legal firmament and has had the privilege of guidance from eminent l
egal luminaries such as
\nDr. B.R.Ambedkar\, Lokmanya Tilak\, Justic
e M.C.Chagla\, Nani Palkhivala and several others who have adorned benches
of the Supreme Court of India and the Bombay High Court. Equally\, studen
ts who have passed from the portals of GLC have distinguished themselves a
t the Bar\, the Judiciary and the Academy. The fulcrum of the college has
been its well qualified and dedicated visiting faculty who besides being s
uccessful professionals\, make time to share their knowledge with the stud
ents\, and the freedom enjoyed by students to work while in college.
\nThe Sports Committee of Government Law College has always striven to pro
mote sporting culture in the law school life of its students. Our teams ha
ve participated in the top national law schools’ tournaments and have wo
n laurels of our college. The sports committee is immensely proud to annou
nce its flagship tournament “SHOWDOWN” 2nd to 4th March\, 2014. We inv
ite participation of your institution in Football (M)\, Cricket (M) and Vo
lleyball (M &\; W).

The venue for Football and Volley
ball is Karnataka Sporting Association\, Church gate and for Cricket is Ov
al Maidan\, Church gate. Professional referees and umpires will be appoint
ed for all the matches. The last date for registration is 28th February 20
14. Each sport has a maximum of 8 participating teams and registration wil
l be done on a first come basis. We hope to see you at SHOWDOWN 2014.
\nRULES AND REGULATIONS:
\n1. College ID cards for the year 2014-15
must be presented to the organisers by all the players before every game\,
failing which the player will not be allowed to participate.
\n2. Sm
oking\, consumption of alcohol or any other kind of misbehaviour at the ve
nue by any participant will result in the disqualification of that partici
pant’s college from all sporting events.
\n3. Decisions of the refe
rees and umpires will be final in all cases and must be respected by all p
articipants.
\n4. Rules for various sports are given below:
\nFo
otball Rules:
\n1. Every team must have a minimum of 11 players.
\n2. Matches will be held in league format.(depending on the no. of teams
)
\n3. Maximum 5 substitutes on the bench\, up to 3 substitutions all
owed per match.
\n4. Professional referees affiliated with the Mumba
i School Sports Association(MSSA) will be appointed for the games\, along
with 2 assistant referees\, also affiliated with the is Mumbai School Spor
ts Association(MSSA).
\n5. Quarter finals will be of 20 minutes a hal
f and semi-finals and finals will be of 25 minutes a half. In case of a dr
aw\, a penalty shootout will decide the winner.
\n6. The Offside rule
applies.
\n7. Red card results in 1 game suspension

et T-20 Rules:
\n1. Every team must have a minimum of 11 players.
\n2. Normal T-20 cricket rules will apply.
\n3. Matches will be hel

\n4. The free hit rule does not apply.

5. Every team should bring their own kits and required equipment\, and sho
uld be solely responsible for the same. Nothing will be provided for by th
e organisers. The organisers cannot be held liable for any misplaced equip
ment.

Volleyball (M &\; W) Rules:
\n1. Type o
f Tournament: League\, Pool or Knockout\, depending on the number of the t
eams participating.
\n2. Each team is to consist of a minimum of 6 a
nd a maximum of 10 players.
\n3. Each set is of 25 rally points. A m
atch is of 3 sets. The third set would be a decider set of 15/25 points.\n4. Rotation during the matches is compulsory.
