This seminar focuses on facilitating the student to gain kno wledge in renewable energy systems with power electronics converters. Ther e are many renewable energy sources such as biomass\, solar\, wind\, mini- hydro and tidal power. Power electronics finds applications in most RES te chnologies\, solar and wind energy systems being the most important applic ations. This seminar has been designed to cover topics related to the desi gn of alternative energy based systems.
\nThe main objective of this seminar is to focus on the integration of the alternative sources of energ y\, including wind power\, photovoltaic\, gas\, biomass and energy storage for those systems. The output of many renewable generators like photovolt aic cells\, fuel cells\, etc. is variable dc\, which requires a dc/ac conv ersion stage for grid connection. For other renewable generators with vari able ac output\, like wind or sea-wave generators\, one can at first conve rt the variable ac to dc and then do dc-ac conversion to connect to the ut ility line or use a direct ac-ac conversion.
\nTherefore different ty pes of power converters with a wide range of power rating are used. These power electronic converters help to utilize the energy in a more efficient way.
