 avelengths of light (190 to 900 nm). Metals are introduced in aquatic syst
 ems as a result of the weathering of soils and rocks\, from volcanic erupt
 ions\, and from a variety of human activities involving the mining\, proce
 ssing\, or use of metals and/or substances that contain metal pollutants. 
 Exposure of living organisms to heavy metals leads to numerous health haza
 rds.</p>
