Open defecation (OD) is one of the major disputes in rural s anitation system. There are many factors involved in elimination of open d efecation system in India. Particularly\, in rural parts of India .The lac k of awareness\, traditional cultural practices\, poverty and complication s in the existing sanitary system which requires more usage of water. Repl acement of toilets pits after filing also discourages the usage of toiles. Open defecation also creates an unhygienic condition which serves as a pl atform for several diseases including diarrhea and intestinal worm infecti ons etc.\, Due to fecal contamination the child mortality rate increases. Government of India has initiated the activities to make India ‘Open Def ecation Free (ODF)’ through Swatchh Bharat Mission (SBM). The prime obje ctive of this seminar is to create awareness among public\, students\, NGO s\, faculty and researchers about rural sanitation and its importance.
