SCOPE OF EVENT

\nThe days when Customer Service \, IT\, Human Resources\, Engineering\, Operations and Construction could operate in silos is coming nearer. Smart Grid implementation is a key reas on for this change. While specialized knowledge will be necessary in each of these disciplines\, knowledge of the big picture and the ability to wor k in ways that cut across the organization will be an absolute requirement in the future.
\nIndia is presently spearheading some of the largest transformation projects with technology interventions for building smart cities\, renewable energy and power grid modernization. Honorable Prime Mi nister Shri Narendra Modi has committed to provide 24x7 reliable supply of electricity to all the citizens in the next 5 years. In order to achieve this noble objective several targeted programs have already been launched by Government of India. The Government of India is planning to roll out of 250 million Smart Meters in next 5-7 years. Besides on the policy side al so several measures are taken to implement the programs successfully. Thes e include an Amendment to the Electricity Act 2003 (which is in the Parlia ment presently) that will usher in an era of retail competition in electri city distribution\; Model Smart Grid Regulations approved by the statutory body of Forum of Regulators\; Indian Standards for Smart Meters (IS 16444 – 2015 &\; IS 15959 Part 2\, 2016) issued by Bureau of Indian Standa rds\; and Net Metering Policies in 25 States.
\nThe Main Objective of this Workshop covers aspects of the Smart Grid that touch all departments in the utility. It is suitable for participants from any of these discipl ines. In order to create awareness about the smart grid/smart cities\, thi s workshop pave way to enhance the knowledge of faculty\, Students\, Indus try Professionals and Research Community in reaching their objective. This course will helps to build the big picture along with practical informati on and lessons learnt to succeed on the next generation energy supply syst em.

\nABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
\nThe Electrical and Elec tronics Engineering department occupies a prominent place in the chronicle s of its academic history. The department has been consistently producing illustrious Engineering graduates of high caliber who occupy prestigious p ositions in the academic and industrial fields. The specialization of the faculty includes Power System Engineering\, Power Electronics and drives\, Energy Engineering\, Applied Electronics\, Control Systems\, VLSI\, Bio-M edical Engineering\, Digital Signal Processing\, Sensors and Networks\, Co mputer Networks\, Instrumentation and Control etc. The department offers f our year UG programme in EEE and two year PG programmes in Power Electroni cs and Drives and Applied Electronics. The department also carrying out ma ny consultancy activities like energy auditing to many industries. EEE Dep artment of Kongu Engineering College has bagged the National level award u nder the category “Best Industry linked Technical Institute for the Elec trical Engineering stream”\, on the survey organized jointly by AICTE an d CII during June-July 2013\, for the year 2012-13.
