SUMMARY:National Level Workshop on F1 IC Engines\, Hybrid Cars and Autonomo
 us Cars
LOCATION:Coimbatore Institute of Technology\, Coimbatore
DESCRIPTION:<p>IC ENGINES OF F1 CARS:<br />\n<br />\nWhat is an IC Engine?<
br />\nThe term I.C engine stands for Internal Combustion Engine referring
to an engine in which combustion is intermittent\, such as the more famil
iar four-stroke and two-stroke piston engines\, along with variants\, such
as the six-stroke piston engine and the Wankel rotary engine. The engine
is where the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in
a combustion chamber which creates a force which is applied typically to
pistons\, turbine blades\, rotor or a nozzle thus transforming chemical en
 ergy into useful mechanical energy.<br />\nIC Engine Dismantling:<br />\nH
ave you ever wondered how does an I.C engine look like? Have you ever wond
ered how does it power your vehicle? Have you ever wondered how does it wo
rk and how does it give you so much of speed?<br />\nThis workshop the res
ource person will dismantle the IC Engine to display the major parts of th
e Engine and explain its functions.<br />\nHow different is the F1 Engine
different from a Normal Car Engine?<br />\nDo you know that an F1 car can
accelerate from 0 to 100 mph and decelerate back to 0 in just four seconds
?<br />\nAre you aware of the fact that F1 car engines last only for about
2 hours of racing mostly before blowing up? Isn’t it surprising that an
F1 engine usually revs up to 18000 rpm? The average car revs up to 6\, 00
 0 rpm?<br />\nFormula 1 is the most technologically advanced\, competitive
\, and dangerous auto racing in the world. Formula 1 cars are designed and
built to the limits of technology. And IC Engine is the heart which power
s these rapid automobiles to unimaginable speeds. This workshop would give
you a detailed knowledge on the IC Engines used in F1 cars.<br />\nThis s
ession will be presented by a Resource person from RENAULT NISSAN.<br />\n
 <br />\n<br />\n<br />\n<br />\nHYBRID CARS:<br />\n<br />\nWhat is a Hybr
id Car?<br />\nA Hybrid Car uses two or more distinct types of power\, suc
h as internal combustion engine to drive a generator that powers an electr
ic motor\, e.g. in diesel-electric trains using diesel engines to drive an
electric generator that powers an electric motor\, and submarines that us
e diesel when surfaced and batteries when submerged. Other means to store
energy include pressurized fluid in hydraulic hybrids.<br />\nEmergence of
Hybrid Cars:<br />\nThe Indian car space has come a long way in the past
few years in terms of technology. There is a growing acceptance of hybrid
cars and the Government of India also thinks that Hybrid vehicles are the
future and recently revealed its aim to have an all-electric car fleet in
the country by 2030. While this is quite ambitious\, for now\, we have bee
n seeing more and more carmaker entering the hybrid car space.<br />\nIt's
time to leave the old way of driving behind. Hybrid cars save fuel\, redu
ce emissions and even recharge their batteries without being plugged in. Y
ou might think they are complicated to own\, yet the opposite is true –
they are designed to make your life easier. Find out everything about what
is a hybrid car and how they work right here.<br />\nThis session will be
conducted by a resource person from RENAULT NISSAN<br />\n<br />\nAUTONOM
 OUS CARS:<br />\n<br />\nWhat is an Autonomous Car?<br />\nAn autonomous c
ar is also known as a driverless car or a self-driving car is a vehicle th
at is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human inpu
 t. Autonomous cars use a variety of techniques to detect their surrounding
 s\, such as radar\, laser light\, GPS\, odometry\, and computer vision. Ad
vanced control systems interpret sensory information to identify appropria
te navigation paths\, as well as obstacles and relevant signage. Autonomou
s cars have control systems that are capable of analyzing sensory data to
distinguish between different cars on the road\, which is very useful in p
lanning a path to the desired destination.<br />\nFuture of Autonomous Car
 s<br />\nFor most people\, self-driving cars are just an abstraction\, som
ething they read about occasionally in the press but still consider a far-
off\, futuristic fantasy. But the events that took place over the past few
months signal a key shift in the trajectory of self-driving cars and prov
e that these vehicles are much closer to reality than most people think.<b
r />\nFord being a frontrunner in Autonomous cars has said it plans to rol
 l out a highly-automated car by 2021 and its CEO\, Jim Hackett said\, “V
ehicles are getting smarter\, in the traditional business. And with the pr
omise of the future business autonomy\, the vehicles are going to get much
smarter. That guarantees\, in a way\, that Ford’s vehicle history is an
advantage. Because the smarter the vehicles are in the future and we can
build them the more they’ll have a role.”<br />\nThis session will be
handled by a Resource person from FORD</p>
