Creativity and innovation are new drivers of every economy. Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) plays a vital role in enhancing the so cio-economic prosperity of every country. Intellectual property is associa ted with intangible property or proprietary quality\, which applies to any product of the human intellect that has commercial value. Intellectual Pr operty Rights are one's legal rights in respect of the 'property' created by one's mind – such as an invention\, or piece of music\, or an ar tistic work\, or a image\, or a design\, which is used in commerce\, in th e form of books\, music\, computer software\, designs\, technological know -how\, trade symbols\, etc. Most of these rights are protected by the laws governing Patents\, Trademarks\, Copyright and Designs. IP is more than a n economic asset and with the increasing connection of property during thi s era of economic process\, it is important to recognize the role which IP systems play in the growth of the Nation. Application and implementation of Intellectual property laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Prot ection against unauthorized use in a particular country depends\, basicall y\, on the national laws of that country. It is important to have an overa ll strategy to protect ones IP. There are inter-governmental efforts to ha rmonize them through international treaties. With corporations\, instituti ons and individuals constantly forge ahead in newer fields and geographica l territories and with path breaking inventions becoming the norm\, the fi eld of Intellectual Property Rights has assumed primeval importance\, espe cially in emerging economies like India.
