SUMMARY:International Conference on Indias foreign Policy Transformation Is
sues and Challenges 2017
LOCATION:Kongu Engineering College\, Erode
DESCRIPTION:
The principal task of India’s foreign policy is to enable
the domestic transformation of India. And by this we mean making possible
the transformation of India’s economy and society while promoting our va
lues of pluralism\, democracy and secularism. This requires us to work for
a supportive external environment that is peaceful\, thus enabling us to
concentrate on our growth and development. Our foreign policy seeks securi
ty and support from the international community as we build and transform
our society and economy. In the sixty years since its foundation\, our for
eign policy has evolved. It has adjusted to meet new challenges and unprec
edented crisis situations\, as well as risen to meet the needs of intensif
ied economic engagement with the world an engagement that is designed to m
eet the needs of an increased inflow of capital\, technology\, ideas and i
nnovations for our development and for our re-emergence as one of the worl
d’s leading economies.
\nThe extraordinary changes of the last two
decades are fundamentally transforming India’s economy and society. The
consistent high economic growth in this period has not only helped to empo
wer a large number of our citizens but has also led to increased engagemen
t of India with the outside world.
\nThe Indian government’s princi
pal success in the realm of foreign policy and national security in the pa
st year has been its ability to keep its interlocutors on tenterhooks. The
unpredictability of a nation whose responses had become all too easy to p
redict over the last few decades is generating a new sense of expectation
among its interlocutors. From Pakistan to the United States\, from Africa
to ASEAN\, there is now an expectation that the new dispensation in New De
lhi means business and there cannot be business as usual with the Modi gov
ernment. This sense of drive and purpose is what India had been lacking in
 the recent past.
