The gover nment of India spends 12 billion rupees per annum on treating ailments ari sing due to improper sanitation. Indeed the lack of toilets is a prime cha llenge that India has failed to confront and has gone unnoticed for decade s. In 2014 on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi our Honorable Prime Minister Shree Narendra Modi initiated his drea m cleanliness campaign “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. Ever since then nation wide campaigns have been launched to improve sanitation facilities especia lly in the rural areas. Apart from the socioeconomic strings attached to t he topic there are also many engineering aspects that have not received ad equate attention. From the material of construction to novel techniques fo r fecal waste disposal\, there have been much advancement in this field bu t on the ground level things still continue with the age old technologies. Toilets and fecal waste management is a topic that has been deprived of t he genuine research attention that it deserves due to huge challenges it p ossess to our nation.
