In recent days\, gas sensing technology have received much a ttention due to harmful effect of the toxic gases which affects human and environment. The gases containing sulfur can result in undesirable disastr ous deformations such as infection to respiratory track and lung cancer. H ence\, it is necessary to detect toxic gases which are naturally present i n the atmosphere as well. Therefore there is a need for low cost and more effective gas sensor operable in sub-ppm range. Thin film gas sensor has b een regarded as a promising solid-state gas sensor for hazardous gas detec tion.

\nThe overall objective of this workshop is to provide an insight in the different techniques for preparing thin films ga s sensors for the deduction of several target gases and strategies to impr ove the sensing characteristic\, particularly gas sensitivity and selectiv ity. The challenges and future trends of thin film technology for gas sens ing applications will also be discussed in this workshop.
