About Event

Electric Mobility – Opportunities and Challenges
“The automotive industry is on the cusp of new era”. On the path to an emission-free future for mobility, the electrified vehicle will play a central role. Consolidating knowledge and competencies relating to electric mobility, we need new forms of cooperation across sectors and industries as well as across economic regions.

Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India launched the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020. (Website: http://dhi.nic.in) It aims to achieve national fuel security by promoting electric vehicles in the country.

Electric mobility provides opportunities for an energy revolution, but at the same time presents various challenges to companies with disruptive technology and the business world. In the EV Era, the whole eco system of the automotive industry will change. For example, the IC Engines, the usage of fossil fuel, Transmission System, lubrication etc. are going to be replaced by electric drives and controls.
The engineers need to re-invent their skills; the design manufacture of these energy-efficient and technologically advanced vehicles requires battery specialists, hybrid engineers; engineers with knowledge of battery management, software upgrades and power electronics.
A disruptive technology displaces an established technology and shakes up the industry or a ground-breaking product that creates a completely new industry. Many Companies needs to re-invent themselves. They need to assess customer requirements and the sustainability of electric mobility as well as flesh out and foster new business models. The electric mobility concept can only succeed if car manufacturers build infrastructure, range and sustainability aspects into their considerations from the outset.

The cars recently released by American Automaker - TESLA Motors could accelerate to 96 kmph in less than 4 seconds and could reach up to a top speed of 209 kmph. These cars could be driven upto 394 km in a single charge and it seems to be promising.

We need to collectively think through and come out with ideas for us to survive this disruption….
The opportunities and challenges are:
 Creation of new job opportunities
 Electric Mobility is the future
 It is not a threat but an opportunity
 Battery and battery management
 Electrification of heavy vehicles
 Availability of rare earth materials etc….
