Helios, annual technical festival of department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bomaby, is a one-of-a-kind platform for students to rub shoulders with academia, entrepreneurs, industry bigwigs and policy makers from the fields of energy and sustainability. The event will be held on March 10, 2013 featuring competitions, workshops, quizzes, lectures, exhibitions, etc. on a plethora of topics such as energy efficiency, green buildings, entrepreneurship, solar photovoltaics, policy making and much more.
Our vision is to generate awareness and concern about global and national energy issues among the youth. Ultimately the aim is to ingrain the value and importance of energy in the public consciousness; to bring to people's notice the fact that energy is as important as money, and that money and energy both go hand in hand with progress.
Events
Solaroid: The theme of this photography competition is Solar Energy. It is open to all, who wants to capture images of Solar Energy from their own perspective.
Solar Buildings: Given certain parameters of a house, participants are expected to come up with novel ideas to make a comfortable living space taking cost & energy consumption into account.
Energy Live: A Business strategy game in which participants invest in various sources of energy.
Waste to Energy: Locate any source of energy wastage/inefficiency or a potential source, take a few pictures clearly showing the wastage/inefficiency in action and prepare a brief write-up.
Online Quiz: The Energy Quiz, which is a Four Part Quiz.
Lectures: Lecture by Dr. Anil Kakodkar.
Dr. Kakodkar is the Chairman of the 'Solar Energy Corporation of India'.
He is also the former Head of BARC and Atomic Energy Corporation of India.
He has been awarded the 'Padma Vibhushan', 'Padma Bhushan' and 'Padma Shri'.
