\nBiomedical engineers develop devices and procedures that solve medical and health-related problems by combining their knowled ge of biology and medicine with engineering principles and practices. Many do research\, along with medical scientists\, to develop and evaluate sys tems and products such as artificial organs\, prostheses (artificial devic es that replace missing body parts)\, instrumentation\, medical informatio n systems\, health management and care delivery systems. Biomedical engine ers also may design devices used in various medical procedures\, imaging s ystems such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)\, and devices for automati ng insulin injections or controlling body functions. Some specialties with in biomedical engineering are biomaterials\, biomechanics\, medical imagin g\, rehabilitation engineering and orthopedic engineering.
