Construction is the key to civilization. The construction ac tivities involve the whole households. The construction process starts wit h planning\, design\, financing and then creating the real structure. The re are three major sectors of construction viz. buildings\, infrastructure and industrial. India's total spending on construction has been about $42 7 billion in 2013. But\, the unique geo-climatic conditions in India make her highly vulnerable to natural disasters. In India\, about 57% of land i s vulnerable to earthquakes\, of which 12% is vulnerable to severe earthqu akes\, 12% to floods\, 8% to cyclones\, etc. Other types of disasters inc lude landslides\, fires\, chemical and industrial disasters. The main rea son for all this is the rapid unplanned urbanization and growth of cities. The high unpredictability of these events makes it more important to engi neer disaster resilient structures. The planning\, design\, material used should all focus on to make the structures resilient so as to minimize the loss of life and property due to these disasters. One has also witnessed structures' collapse during construction\, too. There are various reasons for this. Better planning\, design and site management can help avoid disa sters at the construction site. This one-day seminar will present an oppor tunity to students of polytechnics in the branches of Civil Engineering\, Architectural Engineering\, Interior Design and Fabrication &\; Erectio n Engineering to present their research with a focus on planning of buildi ngs\, the design trends and the use of new construction materials to make the structures safe and disaster-resilient.
