DESCRIPTION:<p>ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT<br />\nOne of the founding departments 
 of CIT\, the Mechanical Engineering Department has played a leading role i
 n evolving an 'Engineering Science' based curriculum. Today\, the departme
 nt of mechanical engineering of CIT attracts and features an extraordinary
  rich diversity and quantity of talented individuals\, with nearly 500 und
 ergraduates\, 60 graduate students and over 35 faculty members. The depart
 ment served as a role model for many academic institutes in and around Tam
 il Nadu. Over the years\, interaction with industry and the emphasis on ap
 plied engineering has increased.<br />\nABOUT WELDING RESEARCH CELL<br />\
 nThe Mechanical Engineering Department of CIT has been a pioneer in establ
 ishing Welding Research Cell for dedicated research in the field of Weldin
 g. To its credit it has produced about 30 PhDs over the period and still a
  lot of researchers are carrying out their PhD work here. Besides there ar
 e many types of Welding machines like Digital Standard MIG Welding System\
 , FSP\, Pulse MIG\, Plasma Arc Welding\, Synergic MIG\, TIG\, MMAW Welding
  systems\, Stir Casting Furnace\, Squeeze Casing Machine\, Disc Polishing 
 Machine\, Micro-Hardness Testing Machine\, Corrosion Testing Equipment\, F
 errite Scope\, A General Purpose FS Robot and many facilities are incorpor
 ated here in welding Research Cell.</p>
