A Blockchain is a database that is shared across a network o f computers. Once a record has been added to the chain it is very difficul t to change. To ensure all the copies of the database are the same\, the n etwork makes constant checks. Blockchains have been used to underpin digit al currency (Bitcoin\, Litecoin\, Ethereum). The tech allows digital infor mation to be distributed\, but not copied. That means each individual piec e of data can only have one owner.
\nUsing cryptography to keep excha nges secure\, blockchain provides a decentralized database\, or “digital ledger”\, of transactions that everyone on the network can see. This ne twork is essentially a chain of computers that must all approve an exchang e before it can be verified and recorded. The information is constantly re conciled into the database\, which is stored in multiple locations and upd ated instantly. That means the records are public and verifiable. Since th ere’s no central location\, it harder to hack since the info exists simu ltaneously in millions of places. Block chain is going to be used for more than just currency and transactions.
