Asian Congress on Biotechnology (ACB) is organized bienniall y under the aegis of Asian Federation of Biotechnolgy in one of the Asian countries. The Asian Federation of Biotechnolgy (AFOB) (www.afob.org) was set up in 2008 after a series of meetings with representatives from about 15 Asian countries\, when it was decided to establish its main office at I ncheon\, Korea. ACB itself is a continuation of earlier well-known Asia Pa cific Biochemical Engineering Conference (APBioChEC)\, which was held nine times during 1980 to 2009. ACB\, however\, has a broader mandate as it en compasses not only biochemical engineering\, but also several emerging are as of biotechnology\, which are going to play an important role in develop ment and commercialization of several technologies which will be beneficia l for the well-being of humankind. The development of bio-based technologi es\, by virtue of their being mild-energy intensive in nature and based on renewable feedstock\, will pave the way for large usage of sustainable te chnologies in various sectors of economy such as renewable energy\, food\, agriculture\, health-care\, biodegradable polymers\, biofertilizers\, bio pesticides\, biopharmaceuticals\, commodity and fine chemicals etc. Accord ingly\, the first ACB under the aegis of AFOB was held at Shanghai\, China during May 11-15\, 2011. The purpose of this Asian Congress on Biotechnol ogy (ACB2013) is to bring together leading professionals from academia\, i ndustry and government to discuss scientific and strategic advances result ing in global sustainability and to foster collaborations.
